Welcome to my blog on transitions.
Transitions are hard! It is something expressed often from clients. At the Life Institute, we employ both customised and well-practised strategies to help our clients manage transitions well.
There are many transitions that we can help you with as we have accumulated extensive knowledge, experience and wisdom about the psychology of transitions and what can work to help you through them smoothly.
We offer support in areas, such as career transitions, from subject selection for students using the Morrisby careers test, to clarity for career changers and success with getting the job you want, through to finding meaning for retirees.
Additionally, we help families develop parenting skills to help children transition through life from babies, to toddlers, to school children, teens and beyond.
We help newcomers settle into Australia, learn English, find a job, make friends and more.
Finally, we provide professional support to people in the workplace who are experiencing transitions from restructures, needed cultural change and more.
Here are three tips to help you have a smooth transition in life:
1. Be clear about what you want to achieve with the transition as having a picture in your mind of what you want it to look like, whether it’s the dream job, best tafe or uni course, desirable industry, work/life/family balance and more. Even better, write it down or stick a picture on the fridge. When you have this the subconscious mind helps you achieve it as we mentally move towards that which we think about.
2. Make an actionable plan of attack. Identify the what, when, how and who so that the plan becomes a reality. This may involve getting out of your comfort zone, picking up the phone, networking, and so forth. It’s a call to action. What have you go to lose? You ask you receive, you don’t ask, you don’t receive. You need help with the kids, so ask for it. You want work experience, work your parents’ network. You want to travel, get any job and save.
3. Adopt a can do attitude. There is nothing more draining than hanging out with negative people who dump on you. Avoid these types of interactions. Seek positive people who contribute to universe and your dreams and aspirations. Generate positive energy yourself and positive energy will come back and feed that cycle. You CAN do it. Like the red little engine climbing the hill in the famous children’s story, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.
So stay posted.
